PRC-117F

The AN/PRC-117F Multiband, Multimission Manpack Radio covers the entire 30 to 512 MHz frequency range while offering embedded COMSEC, SATCOM, and ECCM capabilities.

Fully compatible with the TSEC/KY-57 and the ANDVT/KYV-5 in voice and data modes, the AN/PRC-117F is also compatible with Fascinator equipment in voice mode and the KG-84C in data mode. Transmit and receive SARK operations are fully supported for each COMSEC interoperability mode. The radio supports both DS-101 and DS-102 fill interfaces and all common fill devices. The AN/PRC-117F also supports a KY-57/VINSON compatible interface to ease backwards interoperability with fielded equipment.

PVS-5

AN/PVS-5 Night Vision Goggles are a self-contained, passive, image intensifying, night vision viewing system worn on the head with or without the standard battle helmet or aviator helmet. They are a second generation binocular system capable of providing night vision viewing using available light from the night sky (starlight, moonlight). The built-in infrared light source provides added illumination for close-up work such as map reading.
The PVS-5 is equipped with a headstrap to allow "hands-free" operation. Shipping case, soft carrying case, eyepiece and objective lens cap, and arctic adapter assembly are authorized ancillary items. Demist shields are also provided to prevent fogging of the eyepiece.

PVS-7

The AN/PVS-7D is a lightweight, high performance passive third generation image intensifier system. The goggle assembly is a headmounted self-contained night vision system containing one biocular unit consisting of an objective lens assembly, an image intensifier tube, a housing assembly, and a binocular eyepiece assembly. The housing is mounted to a face mask assembly which is held by head straps to the user's head. The assembly incorporates an infrared (IR) light source which provides illumination, to permit close-in-viewing. Fielding is five per infantry squad/battalion and 75 per Infantry company. The AN/PVS-7D is a single tube Image Intensifier systems which replace the earlier AN/PVS-5 binocular second generation image intensifier goggle. All AN/PVS-7D systems are presently being delivered with third generation tubes (MX-10130A).

Digital Communications Terminal DCT
The concept in 1979  was to have a "portable" digital device that could be attached to a portable radio and transmit information (9 Line, DD1972 etc) in a much shorter time than can be done via voice.  The concept is sound, unfortunately the equipment sucked then and has failed to keep up with current technology, so it still sucks now.  The same capability exists with off the shelf PDA equipment.  The DCT contract is dead yet people are still insisting on using the equipment.  The new (2001) TACP modernization program addresses this and many other items.

KECO Switch

The switch attaches to the Antenna port.  The switch you see on the side there is 180 out from a SAT BNC connector.  On the top you see the UHF/VHF antenna mount.  The premise is that you can have both antennas attached and move the switch you see there to go between SAT and LOS operations.  What does this save you?  Time, connectors, getting your fingers torn up during cold WX.  TACP-M bought 1000 of these pieces of kit for you.  Delivery will start in June 03 and extend for a few months (figure 350+) a month.
