Gunfight and Airstrike in Korengal Valley
Senior Airman Gregory Moulton fires at insurgent positions Aug. 13 during an early morning gun battle in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan's Kunar Province. Airman Moulton is attached to the U.S. Army's Company B, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colo. Many Airmen fight side by side with U.S. Army units, serving as liaisons between ground forces and Air Force bombers and fighters patrolling Afghan airspace. International Security Assistance Force troops across Afghanistan have increased operations in recent months, in order to ensure safety and security during Afghanistan's second national election, scheduled for the end of August.
